Maundy Thursday symbolising Last Supper observed in Ferar

Ferar, Apr 18: Maundy Thursday, also known as “Holy Thursday,” is the day on which Jesus celebrated the Passover with His disciples. On this day, Jesus washed the disciples’ feet as an act of humility and service, thereby setting an example that we should love and serve one another in humility.

This solemn occasion, was observed in St. Francis Xavier Church, Ferar on the 13th of April, 2017 with a special mass at 5 p.m. The main celebrant was our parish priest Rev. Fr. Pius Pinto and the con-celebrants were Rev. Fr. Roshan Rosario and Rev. Fr. Melwyn Sequeira.

This day is observed as the First institution of the Eucharist, priesthood and of Liturgy. The Eucharistic Ministers renewed their vows. There was a ‘feet washing’ ceremony held on this day, and the parish priest washed the feet of 12 parishioners which included the young and the old, the sick and the healthy, the religious and the lay.

After the communion, the tabernacle was emptied to symbolise the agony of Jesus. This was followed by the reposition of the blessed sacrament and the open adoration. At the end of the mass, bread was distributed to all the parishioners which was donated by Mr. Urban Pinto of Ruzai ward.
