Mangalore: Distinguished Konkani achievers honoured
MANGALORE, August 3, 2009: The Parthgali Gokarna math on Sunday honoured nine distinguished achievers of Konkani community. Those honoured includes Chancellor of Manipal University Dr. Ramadas Pai, Chairman of ICICI Bank Mr. K.V.Kamath, well known journalist and columnist Mr.M.V.Kamath, politician and KPCC president Mr. R.V.Deshpande, Srinivas V. Dempo, Dr. Ashok Pai, Bhadragiri Achuta Das, Dr.P. Dayananda Pai. They received their honours from the swamiji of the Gokarn Parthgali math of Gokarna HH Vidyadhiraja Thirta.
In their speeches they praised the swamiji for the work he has carried out during this lifetime in various facets of life. The work was in the fields of education, religious revival, community service and economic empowerment of the Konkanis.
Mr. Deshpande who spoke on the occasion on behalf of those who were honoured said that public life is one facet of life that will give ultimate satisfaction to the people who take it up.
Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister of Goa Mr. Digambar Kamath told that religion plays a big role in maintaining social balance and the views of swamijis carry valid point.
Others who replied to the felicitations includes Mr. Bhadragiri Achuta das, Mr. K.V. Kamath and Mr. Dayananda Pai. A large number of Konkani people also were present to witness the programme on this occasion.
